The Vocational Nursing Program at Central Coast College is designed to provide the student with the basic knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of a Vocational Nurse in a health care environment. The program is approved by the BVNPT as an accredited training program, the completion of which meets the minimum requirements set forth as necessary for application to take the Vocational Nurse License examination. The program includes 10-13 weeks clock hour terms, consisting of five consecutive terms of instruction. The total program is completed over five terms. The program curriculum includes progression of learning from basic to more complex concepts, and to specialty nursing concepts.
In the Vocational Nursing program, you’ll learn to:
- Provide basic nursing care
- Administer medications
- Document patients’ signs and symptoms
- Perform therapeutic and rehabilitative measures
Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion, Vocational Nursing diploma.

As a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), you will be part of a health care delivery team, providing basic nursing care, administering medications, health assessment, documenting a patient’s signs and symptoms as well as carrying out therapeutic and rehabilitative measures.
LVNs care for people who are sick, injured, convalescent, or disabled under the support direction of physicians and registered nurses. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment of licensed vocational nurses is projected to grow 6% from 2021 to 2031.
